COMPOSITION:

Each ml contains:

Zinc 40 mg

Manganese 10 mg

Selenium 3 mg

Copper 10 mg

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: USE ONLY AS DIRECTED

Use only in sheep and Angora goats; by subcutaneous injection only.

Dosage & treatment:

Rams:

1 ml 3 – 4 months prior to mating

Ewes:

1 ml 4 weeks prior to mating

1 ml 4 weeks prior to lambing

Lambs & Angora Kids:

0,5 ml at weaning (4 months)

1 ml every 3 months until breeding

GENERAL:

A primary zinc and / or manganese and / or selenium and / or copper deficiency probably occurs in Southern Africa on sandy and leached soils. However, on calciferous soils and in diets high in calcium, subclinical and even clinical deficiencies of zinc and / or manganese and / or selenium and / or copper can occur. However, the availability of copper is also impaired by other elements in the diet such as calcium, molybdenum, iron, sulphur and inorganic sulphates in the drinking water.

Selenium is a critical trace element, which is deficient in many areas, albeit not well defined, in Southern Africa. It plays an important role in the survival rate of newly born lambs and kids.

For the above reasons MULTIMIN + Se + Cu Sheep & Angora Goats contains all four of these elements.

SIGNS:

Zinc and / or manganese and / or selenium and / or copper deficiencies cause impairment of fertility. There are however other possible causes of reduced fertility and professional advice should be sought.

Skin lesions such as loss of hair (”pluiswol” in wool sheep) and thickening of the skin (parakeratosis) may occur with a zinc deficiency. In Angora goats, hair slipping occurs noticeably on the head and back.

In young animals, skeletal abnormalities such as enlarged joints, stiffness, twisted legs, weak hocks and general weakness may be due to a manganese deficiency. A copper deficiency causes some characteristic symptoms such as sway back in lambs and kids, loss of crimp in wool, poor mineralisation of long bones, anaemia (hypochromic-normositic) and depigmentation of black wool fibers.

Nutritional muscular dystrophy (white muscle disease) particularly in young animals, which is also known as selenium responsive myopathy, is associated with low levels of selenium in animal tissues and glutathione peroxidase in the blood. Absence of dietary elements such as vitamin E, may precipitate the clinical condition.

In breeding animals early embryonic losses and the birth of weak offspring have inter alia been associated with a selenium deficiency.

FOR USE IN ANGORA GOATS ONLY. NOT TO BE USED IN OTHER GOAT SPECIES. (I.E. BOERGOATS)

WARNINGS:

Do not use in any other animals.
Deficiencies in trace elements can only be diagnosed by professionals. This product is only available from a veterinarian.
Selenium and copper toxicity can occur when an injectable product is used if selenium and copper levels are not established before use.
Slight local irritation may occur for about 30 seconds after injection. A slight swelling may be observed at the injection site for a few days after administration.
Do not inject lambs and Angora kids under 4 months.
Do not use in areas where jaundice occurs.
All sheep to be treated with MULTIMIN + Se + Cu Sheep & Angora Goats should be vaccinated against pulpy kidney at least four weeks prior to injection with MULTIMIN + Se + Cu Sheep & Angora Goats.
Avoid any unnecessary stress during handling and after administration of MULTIMIN + Se + Cu Sheep & Angora Goats. It is advisable not to handle animals again for 14 days after administering MULTIMIN + Se + Cu Sheep & Angora Goats.
It is a known fact that goats are sensitive to subcutaneous injections. In some cases outbreaks of clostridial infections (black quarter and malignant oedema) and anthrax can occur. For this reason, users are advised to treat only 10 animals and observe them for 48 hours. Treatment of the whole flock can be considered if no adverse signs are noted after 48 hours, in the treated animals.
Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals.
Although this remedy has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.
