My dog has oily skin and dandruff, what should I do?

Understanding skin disorders

Many skin conditions have consequences on the structure of the skin.

Keratoseborrhoeic states are disorders of the skin that result in the presence of oily skin and / or dandruff in dogs. There are abnormalities of the surface lipid film, which can become abundant, and also an alteration of desquamation (the normal process of epidermal renewal) related to abnormalities of division and maturation of skin cells.

This can lead to a thickening of the skin, and to the development of dander (dandruff).

The skin is then colonized by a large number of bacteria and yeasts, which can cause itching and an unpleasant odour develops frequently. Keratoborrhoeic states are usually consecutive to endocrine disorders.
