Multimin, an unparalleled partnership

Frikkie Oosthuizen & Seuns Boerdery, an intensive dairy farm in the Swellendam / Bonnievale area, rely on partnerships for the success of their dairy.

Frihan Oosthuizen says, "Our relationship with Virbac is one of the important components that contributes to the longevity of our business."

This farm is focused on high-producing animals, and Multimin contributes to this production - from the health and fertility of their cows, to the rearing of their calves.

When it comes to high-producing dairy cows, it is important to ensure that their trace mineral status is optimal throughout each stage of production. Precision farming in large dairy herds is crucial. Using Multimin strategically, the Oosthuizen's received a return on investment through improved pregnancy rates, fewer diseases and better calf rearing. On this farm, they produce silage of high quality and basal nutrition is important to provide for the high daily nutritional needs of their modern Holstein and Jersey cows. Multimin is applied to this herd during dry off, at steam up and just after calving, as well as during seasonal changes with Pro-Vit A for vitamin A supplementation. For the calves there is a fixed program - calves are given Multimin at 7 days of age, during weaning and heifers four times a year up to and including breeding. Bulls are also treated with Multimin 3 to 4 times a year, if they do have bulls.

"Multimin is one of the major components in our dairy and indispensable on this farm", says Nita Steyn, one of the herd managers on the farm.
